Gcse Physics Module 3 Moments

?
What is a 'moment'?
Measurement of the turning effect of the force on an object
1 of 7
What is the 'effort'?
Force applied
2 of 7
How do you increase the moment of a force?
Increase the force itself or the distance from the line of action to the pivot
3 of 7
What is the centre of mass?
The point where it's mass may be thought to be concentrated
4 of 7
What does it mean to be in 'equilibrium'?
When a suspended object's centre of mass is directly beneath the point of suspension.
5 of 7
How is stability increased?
By making its base as wide as possible and its centre of mass as low as possible
6 of 7
Why will and object fall over?
Because its line of action of its weigh is outside its base (if its resultant moment is NOT zero)
