The Sanitary Act
1866 - This required each town to appoint inspectors to keep an eye on the water supplies and how waste was disposed.

1875 - Gave local governments the power to remove slum housing.

1848 - This set up a National Board of Health which could appoint Local Health Boards to monitor the public health by setting standards for housing and raising taxes to make improvements.
