What are the defence systems against the human body
Skin. Nose. Trachea and bronchi. Stomach
1 of 18
What is the role of the immune system against pathogens
If a pathogen enters the immune system tries to destroy it
2 of 18
How do white blood cells defend against pathogens
Phagocytosis, antibody production and antitoxin production
3 of 18
What are the two main defence systems of body
Non specific defence system and immune system
4 of 18
What is the job of the non specific defence system
Prevent pathogens from entering body
5 of 18
Describe how the skin defends against pathogens
Forms a protective layer covering body. The outer layer of skin is dead cells so pathogens find it hard to get through that. Skin also produces oily substance called sebum which can kill bacteria
6 of 18
When skin gets damaged wuat does it do
It scabs over fo stop pathogens from entering
7 of 18
How does nose stop pathogens
Nose contains hair and mucus which can trap pathogens
8 of 18
What do lungs do
Trachea and bronchi are covered with tiny hairs called cilia. Cilia are covered with mucus to trap pathogens. The musuc goes to the throat where its swallowed into stomach
9 of 18
How does stomach stop pathogens
Stomach contains hydrochloric acid which kills pathogens before they can get to digestive system
10 of 18
What does immune system do
Destorys the pathogens and the toxins produced aswell. It also protects us incase the same type of pathogen enters body again
11 of 18
Bacteria release chemical called
Toxins which make us feell unwell
12 of 18
What happens in phagocytosis
White blood cells ingest and destroy. The cell detects the pathogen and moves towards it then ingests it. Then it uses enzymes to destory pathogen
13 of 18
What do antibodies do
They stick to pathogen and it triggers the pathogen to be destroyed
14 of 18
Antibodies are extremely specific ture or false
Yes
15 of 18
What does this mean
This means that if person catches measkes then anti odies will produce ones to fight measles but those antibodies will only work for that virus
16 of 18
Antibodies stay in body a long time
So if we get same pathogens again it can fight off those easily
17 of 18
What do antitoxins do
They stick to the toxin molecules and prevent them from damaging cells
