Explain the 'Brinell Test'?
A hardened steel ball is forced into the material's surface. The resulting surface area of the indent is measured and calculated to give it a hardness number.

A diamond pyramid is used to indent the material. This is measured using a microscope.

Explain the 'Rockwell Test'?
Used to test the quality control of a finished product. A rapid test with the hardness value being indicated on an attached dial, thus avoiding the need to measure a very small indent.
