Deviation From Social Norms

Each society has its own 'norms.' Deviation from social norms is perceived as being abnormal. Abnormality is therefore defined as 'behaviour that violates social norms.'

This definition sees individuals as abnormal when their behaviour suggests that they cannot cope with everyday life. It focuses on individual suffering, concentrating on the person experiences associated with mental disorders.
