What is the purpose of a printer?
Used when a hard copy of info is needed from a computer. 3 main types- dot matrix/ inkjet/ laser. 2 main categories- impact and non impact.

What is a dot Matrix?
Print head has 9 or 24 pins (better quality). Print a series of dots on paper- pins strike paper through ribbon. Used for carbon copies. printers are often bi-directional. very versatile. Can be very noisy.

What is a laser printer?
The printer receives a stream of bits representing the page to be printed. A laser beam scans back and forth across a drum inside the printer building up a pattern of static electricity. This is used to attract toner on the paper.

What is an inkjet?
Prints dots like dot matrix. Pushes ink onto page through tiny holes in the print head. droplets of ink are fired on page. print heads move across page. Cheap, Quiet and good qaulity
