1486/1487 - Richards closest friend, when he failed he took sanctuary in a church. Raised a rebellion in 1486 with the Stafford brothers but it was put down

Irish priest tutored a young Simnel. Earl on Lincoln, leader of yorkist helped. Margaret of Burgundy saw Simnel as her nephew. Raised 2000 mercenaries. Went to to Dublin and we was recognized as Edward VI in 1487. Henry found out and got the REAL ONE

The Yorkshire Rebellion
1489 - Brittany needed money for fighting France, £100K in taxes. Yorkshire didn't want to pay (bad harvest),Non negotiatble - had to pay - sent earl of Northumbland to collect taxes (got killed), Henry sent troops and destroyed the rebellion.

Cornish Rebellion
1497- Wanted more taxes to help defend the north (invaded by Perkin Warbeck and James IV), too far away to care so they raised a rebellion to head to lonodn but numbers declined 1497. Henry raised 25,000 men and crushed them in June.

Edmund de la Pole
1499-1513 - 4th Earl of Suffolk (supported henry),then claimed to be a Yorkist and fled to Flanders in 1499 with other yorkists. But Henry captured the HRE son. Exchanged him for Edmund for £138,000. THen Edmund was executed in 1513

Carrot - Pretigious, Giving recognition for loyalty, crown lands. Henry didn't give it out lightly. Saved him crown lands

Carrot - Henry created 37 knights of the Garter, Re - Establishment. Great honour to have but didn't give you power or lands

Carrot - only 3 Earls made ( get given land) extremely high value. Increased crown lands. toke back lands from the Yorkists

Stick - Taking away the rights to your land. This could be reversed but you would have to be extra loyal to Henry. Passed 139 attainder's but only reversed 46. Could be reversed with good behavior

Bonds and Recognisances
Stick - Written agreements whereby if you offend the nobles have to pay for their offence. Between 1485 and 1509, 36 out of 62 nobles were part of this.

Act of Retaining
Stick - Recruiting men for your own army, the king had no army. Lord Burgavenny in 1506 owed over £70,000

Feudal rights
Stick - Marriage - arranged marriage by him meant they gave him gifts, Wardship - Minors would not get their land until they turned 18 but they would have to buy it back, Relief - Payment to the king when land was inherited
