Lifestyle choices such as heavy smoking and drinking are linked to the development of cataracts

What is Glaucoma?
This is a build up of pressure on the eyes that can effect sight

The Optic Nerve

Genetics associated with high blood pressure, Age

What is Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) ?
This is a painless eye condition which causes the loss of central vision

What happens over time when diagnosed with AMD?
Vision is blurred, colours appear dull and faces become difficult to recognise

What is Wet AMD?
This develops when abnormal blood vessels form underneath the Macaula and damage its cells

What is Dry AMD?
This develops when cells of the Macula become damaged by a build up of deposits

What is Retinopathy a common side affect of?
This is a common side affect of diabetes

What is Retinopathy?
Occurs when high blood sugar levels cause damage to the cells of the retina

What happens if Retinopathy is left untreated?
Potential Blindness

What are possible treatments of Glaucoma?
Non-surgical eye drops and medication to relax the eye. Or laser treatment

What are treatments of Dry AMD?
Nutritional therapy, healthy diet with high antioxidants.

What are treatments of Wet AMD?
VEGF - this is an injection of the chemical called anti- VEGF into the eye. Cuaes new blood vessels to grow and relax others

What does laser eye surgery do?
Treats the growth of new blood vessels at the back of the eye

What does Eye surgery treat?
This removes blood and scar tissue from the eye
