What causes CF?
A recessive gene

What are the side effects of CF?
Abnormal, sticky, mucus on lining of the internal organs. A persistent cough. A huge appetite. Poor weight gain. Excessive sweating. Smelly faeces. Can't digest food properly.

What do you have to do if you live with CF?
Have to watch diet very carefully. Eat lots of carbs and fatty foods. Take enzymes. Take tablets for liver, indigestion and getting rid of bacteria in lungs.

What risks do CF sufferers face?
Self harm, bullying, abuse, stress and isolation.

Why are CF sufferers at risk of self harm?
Because they may be bullied or feel major stressed. They may do it to relieve emotional pain.

Why are CF sufferers at risk of bullying?
Because they have a cough. May be referred as a smokers cough. At school where people don't understand. and in work.

Why are CF sufferers at risk of abuse?
In a relationship or online. When they are too weak physically or emotionally. People take advantage.

Because they have to constantly take medication, feel pain and their lifestyle isnt 'normal'.

Because they may spend a lot of time off of work and school. Or if they are being bullied.

How can you minimize these risks?
Put policies in place, Inform people of it. Support groups. Channel feelings into something else.

Make them tired, worn out due to hospital visits and helping them.

Taking time off of work may mean that they dont get the stimulation needed. However might learn all out the condition.

Feel like not doing enough, worry, anxiety, like they need to always be there, aware they'll outlive own child. Conflict with owns needs. Feel like they are alone and hopeless.

They have to plan every trip out. Environment has pollution etc to make them ill. Overcome by putting policies in place to stop pollution and air purifiers.

They may be inflexible when it comes to work and so people may not want to employ them. Overcome by equal opportunities policies.

Schools etc offer lots of opportunities for illness. Overcome by putting hand gels in in different rooms and encouraging hygiene.

People may discriminate and show prejudice. Can be overcome by going to clubs with people of the same problems.
