What happens in the body when you exercise?
The heart rate increases. Blood vessels supplying the muscles dilate (widen). This allows more blood containing oxygen and glucose to reach the muscles. Breathing rate and depth of breath increase.
1 of 5
How do muscles store glucose?
They store it as glycogen. Glycogen can be converted back to glucose for use during exercise.
2 of 5
Which sugar is needed by the muscles by the muscles for aerobic respiration?
Glucose.
3 of 5
Why does breathing rate and depth of breath increase during exercise?
As it allows a greater uptake of oxygen and the release of carbon dioxide at the lungs.
4 of 5
What happens to the extra carbon dioxide produced?
It needs to be removed.
