paul willis found that lads saw themselves as superior to staff and other pupils. they were not interested in getting qualifications. complete little work whilst entertaining with bad behaviour . unhappy being treated as kids. formed counterculture.

Shop floor culture and the Counter-school culture?
willis found that when the lads got jobs usually in factories they gained a shop floor culture and a counter school culture meaning they were racist and sexist and had little respect for authority.

they believe the government should play a major role in providing welfare through the state for its citizens in order to promote the wellbeing of members of society. society produces inequality of income and wealth -> inequality of opportunity.

they were opposed to the tripartite system in which pupils went to one of three schools, grammar, secondary modern or technical schools.grammar schools only took higher ability pupils (middle class) and secondary modern being mainly working class.
