1. Genes - You are more susceptible of developing osteoporosis if one of your parents has broken a hip (for example)

3. Gender - Women have smaller bones than men, and also experience menopause white accelerates the loss of bone density. Oestrogen has a protective effect on bones, so after menopause there is no longer any oestrogen produced to protect the bones

4. Low body weight - If you have a low BMI then you are at a greater risk of developing osteoporosis

How does calcium reduce your risk of developing osteoporosis?
It increases your bone density, so that you have a greater chance of achieving your peak bone mass

How does vitamin D reduce your risk of developing osteoporosis?
It increases the intestinal absorption of calcium and prevents urinary calcium loss. Vitamin D also has an interrelationship with calcium to help it become absorbed into bones

How do fruit and vegetables reduce your risk of developing osteoporosis?
They are rich in several nutrients that appear to play important roles in bone health (including potassium, magnesium and vitamin K)

How does excess salt increase your risk of developing osteoporosis?
High salt intakes appear to increase urinary calcium loss

30 minutes a day from March to October
