Makes it memorable, emphasises, creates a rhythm, makes a phrases stand out 2 of 10 Metaphors - what do they do? Create vivid pictures in the mind of the reader; help the reader to visualise 3 of 10 Similes - the effect? Like metaphors, they help us to visualise the information/description, bring it to life in a pictorial fashion 4 of 10 Colour - all part of the sensory input in a piece of writing By using colours, a writer can make a description vivid and memorable 5 of 10 Language - what words or phrases stand out to you? Find things that are interersting and comment on them; why did the writer select that precise word or phrase? (fizzle? crackle?) 6 of 10 Atmosphere - tense, happy, fearful, gloomy....? The atmosphere is created throughout the writing and can change or remain the same 7 of 10 Sounds - not just onomatopoeia!
