What is democratic deficit?
The idea that democracy is failing at legitimacy and accountability.

Why is the voting system an issue?
FPTP creates a 2-party-system where a large, country-wide party is required to win. It creates 'safe' seats and means even candidates with small percentages can win

Belfast South 2015 saw a candidate win with just 24.5% of the vote

Why are institutions an example of democractic deficit?
The House of Lords is unelected and unrepersentative of the UK. The Supreme Court is unelected but can change laws
