Tutti
A passage to be performed with all voices of instruments together (in unison). Also used in the romantic era.

Diatonic
Uses only the notes that fit within the key/scale of the piece.

Ornament
A decoration of a note to make it more interesting i.e a trill or mordent. Also used in the Baroque period.

Movement
Sections in a piece usually named after their tempo markings, e.g 'Adagio' or 'Andante'. Used in Romantic as well.

Virtuoso
An instrumentalist who is technically very advanced. Music they play would be called 'virtuosic' due to it's high complexity. Used in all three Concertos.

Cadenza
An improvised solo section in which the soloist can show off their skill (as a virtuoso). Different to the one used in the Romantic period.

Alberti Bass
A form of accompaniment used frequently in the classical era. A broken chord figure usually played in quavers to give the piece a sense of 'movement'.

Melody & Accompaniment Texture
The melody is played alongside an instrument. Also used in the Romantic era.

Balanced Phrases
Phrases of equal length; usually in a 'call and response' structure. Also used in the Baroque.
