The Stamp Act-1765 effects
Tax that was illegal not to pay, affected everyone so caused widespread opposition. Son of liberty- effigies, burning of house and protests caused it to be repealed a year later.

Created new provinces in the east and the west of Florida.White boundary placed, all land west was nullified.Tax on fur.

Outraged western frontiersmen and land speculators. Went against what colonies like Virginia and western lands wanted. Seen as pro-Indian. Smuggling and Bribery. Enflingement 30,000 people moved beyond the line.

The Sugar Act-1764
Pay a duty of half a shilling per gallon of sugar. More products added as it became more popular, wine, coffee, silk. Fines for people who ignored tax or bribed.

The Sugar Act-1764 effects
Reduced smuggling. However increased number of products lead to an increase in illegal behaviour. Acceptance in parliament challenged the colonial legal system.-However not widespread opposition.

The Currency Act-1764
Ban on colonial paper money. Not allowed to use paper money to pay off debts and money that had already been used had to be returned.

Threatened some colonies to go into economic depression. People had little money to invest, trade or buy.

Boston Massacre
1770- 5 colonials shot by British soldiers. Created fear of liberties being taken. Engraving Paul Reveere- not true but influences fear.

Boston Tea party
1773- Britain bought cheap Indian tea. Colonial merchants got angry due to loss of money. Boycotted British tea ship and threw £10,000 worth of tea over board.

Coercive Acts
Punishments for Boston. Created colonial support however, as the threat of Britain suppressing there liberties took over. 1774 New York recreated the tea boycott.
