what is the aim?
to prevent recidivism by modifying the thought patterns of the participants in order to change their aggressive behaviour

usually one-on-one and it is volunteer. for an average of 8 sessions.

cognitive restructuring, relaxation techniques & assertiveness training (changing the way they act)

explain CALM therapy
a popular anger management course that involves looking at biological symptoms of their anger and then reflecting on past situations where they've become angry/aggression and thinking about potential future situations

three strengths
volunteer so participants more dedicated to the success of the treatment, IRELAND: 100 ps half on CALM therapy, became less angry and aggressive. works outside a prison setting

three weaknesses
link between crime and aggression debated by psychologists, only looks at physical aggression and not verbal aggression so they may think this is a suitable alternative, LAW found that only 1 of his participants improved from 8 session course
