Economy

  • caused huge economic strain on Germany
  • only 16% of £8.4 million for war was met - through war bonds and printing money
  • printing money led to inflation
    • decrease in value of money from 1913-1918 of 75%
  • Worker discontent increased in 1916 because Auxiliary Labour Law - OHL restricted freely moving/changing jobs
    • 1918 there was widespread discontent and significant strikes - in Germany lasting for 5 days - Berlin
    • 1/2 million people involved

  • 2 million soldiers killed over 13 million mobilised and 6.3 million injured
