Weimar Germany - Stresemann

Stresemann was Chancellor, then Foreign Minister from November 1923, he:

  • Most important thing - 1923 organised the Great Coalition of moderate, pro-democracy parties in the Reichstag - government could make laws
  • Called off passive resistance in the Ruhr
  • Resumed reparations payments
  • Introduced new currency (Retenmark)
  • Germany became a permanent member of the League of Nations in 1926
  • Causing French and Belgium troops to withdraw from the Ruhr
