Mild steel - Steel is an alloy of iron and carbon. The more carbon that is added to the iron the harder the steel becomes. Mild steel has a carbon content of between 0.15 and 0.30 percent. It is very versatile with many engineering applications. It is easily worked; it can be cut, machined, heated and hammered into shape. However, apart from case hardening, mild steel cannot
