Laminating

• thin sheets of wood known as veneers can be joined together and cramped onto formers to form shapes
• examples of products created in this way: salad servers, curved stool seats, chair backs, curved laminated beams
• by producing an item through the process of laminating, its strength is increased greatly
• Plywood: manufactured by laminating an odd number of thin layers of wood veneers together -> each layer glued at 90 degrees to the previous layer -> odd number used so that grain on the outer surfaces runs in the same direction -> produces a stronger product than natural timbre of an equal thickness
• done with softwood or high density expanded polystyrene male and female mould
