Types of Muscle Fibres
Proportions of the two types of muscle fibre vary from muscle to muscle and person to person.
Slow Twitch Fibres:
- Contract more slowly and with less force
- Sustained contraction is more important than rapid contraction in this type of fibre
- It is called red muscle
- due it containing many myoglobin
- a molecule that stores oxygen and gives it a red colour
- More mitochondria are present for aerobic respiration and there is a much more dense capillary network
- Store of glycogen are present to release glucose for aerobic respiration
- Slow twitch muscle is responsible for prolonged contractions…
