Skeletal Muscles are made of slow twitch and fast twitch muscle fibres
Skeletal muscles are made up of two types of muscle fibres – slow twitch and fast twitch. Different muscles have different proportions of slow and fast twitch fibres. The two types have different properties:
Slow-twitch muscle fibres
- Fibres contract slowly.
- Muscles you use for posture e.g. those in the back, have a high proportion of them.
- Good for endurance activities, e.g. maintaining posture, long-distance running.
