• There have been fluctuations, eg tourism fell by 9100 between 2007 and 2009
• Researchers are classed as tourists. There are 5000 researchers in summer and 1000 in winter.

Rules and regulations

• Tourists mustn't walk on fragile vegetation
• As little stress as possible will be caused to penguin and seal colonies
