The British Empire became the Commonwealth

Nearly all the members of the commonwealth are former British Colonies and after they gained independence they chose to join the commonwealth

The British monarch is head of the 54 members of the commonwealth

Its mainly a forum for discussion and the head of each of the countries meet every two years  about things like Human Rights
