Religion such as Christianity and Islam agree feel retalitation, self defense and greed are the main causes of war. 

Pacifism:

Pacifism comes from the word "peacemaking" in Latin.

It is the belief that any form of violence or aggression is wrong. A pacifist believes this

Active pacifism- Pacifism in politics, agrue against unjust war

Absolute pacifism- All life is precious, all war is wrong 

Selective pacifism- Some types of warfare is acceptable, WMDs are wrong 

Conditional pacifism- War can sometimes be justified and violence too

"Blessed are the peacekeepers"

"Nation will not take up the sword  against nation, nor will they train for war anymore"

Famous pacifists:

Martin Luther King said violence is immoral and impratical

Malcom X said violence is necessary and uncompronisng

Holy War:

Holy war is consisted of good vs evil.

A religion may fight for God

Throughout the Bible, there are many examples of holy wars such as Joshua taking Jerico

The Crusades are an example of holy war

"Declare a holy war, call out the troops to arms"

Holy wars are right when:

It spreads faith 

To rescue Christians from the 'servitude of the infidels'

To retirieve any country that was formally Christian 

Recover and purify consecrated
