Newlands' Octaves
- In the mid 1860's, John made progress in grouping elements.
- He listed the 56 elements in order of atomic mass (or atomic weight as it was known then)
- He noticed a pattern-every eighth element had simlar properties so he grouped the elements
- He called his discovery the law of octaves
