THE UNIVERSE.

AT 5000 MILLION YEARS OLD, THE SUN IS ONLY 500 MILLION YEARS OLDER THAN THE EARTH.

THE UNIVERSE IS MUCH OLDER THAN THIS ; APPROXIMATELY 14, 000 MILLION YEARS OLD (ALMOST THREE TIMES OLDER THAN THE SUN)

THE SUN IS ONE OF THE THOUSANDS OF MILLIONS OF STARS IN THE MILKY WAY.

OUR SUN, 100 TIMES WIDER THAN THE EARTH,

OUR PLANET- THE EARTH 12 800KM DIAMETRE,

THE SOLAR SYSTEM IS APPROXIMATALY 10 BILLION KM ACCROSS.

                                                 THE SPEED OF LIGHT.

LIGHT TRAVELS AT VERY HIGH BUT FINITE (LIMITED) SPEEDS. THIS MEANS THAT IF THE DISTANCE OF AN OBJECT IS GREAT ENOUGH, THE TIME TAKEN FOR LIGHT TO GET THERE CAN BE MEASURED.

THE SPEED OF LIGHT IS 300 000 KM/S IN A VACUUM (AROUND ONE MILLION TIMES FASTER THAN SOUND). SO LIGHT FROM EARTH TAKES JUST OVER ONE SECOND TO REACH THE MOON (APPROXIMATALY 384 400KM AWAY).

LIGHT FROM THE SUN TAKES 8 MINUTES TO REACH THE EARTH. THIS MEANS THAT THE LIGHT WE SEE WHEN WE LOOK AT THE SUN, WE ARE ACTUALLY SEEING WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE 8 MINUTES AGO.

VAST DISTANCES IN SPACE ARE MEASURED IN LIGHT YEARS. ONE…
