·         London had always been a very important centre for the selling of shares and finance. By the mid 1980s, a revolution was taking place in the ‘square mile’.

·         The stock market became computerised, making it easier to buy and sell shares minute by minute. A quick fortune could be made every hour.

·         Following the ‘big bang’ and the increasing availability of credit to buy shares, and the government policy of privatisation, millions of people
