self-supporting arches- so! arches! the romans built them in such a way that they did not need any cement! they would put a wooden frame in, called a centre, then put in the stone. the stone in the middle was put in last, and was called the kepstone. then the support frame would be taken out and ✨voila✨! a stone arch!!
