The Fall of the Lancasters (Henry VI)

?

The House of LANCASTER fell during the 2nd BATTLE of ST. ALBANS:

  • The political struggle for CONTROL for the King & the royal govt, led to an OUTRIGHT WAR of POSSESSION of the CROWN.
  • 1455: Richard, Duke of YORK, was SUPPORTED by the NEVILLE EARLS of SALISBURY & WARWICK & LED them into rebellion AGAINST HENRY VI.
    • They wanted to DESTRUCT SOMERSET
    • ELIMINATE Margaret's influence
    • CONTROL the King
  • However, York did NOT INTEND to take the Crown.
  • York was DETERMINED to be the King's CHIEF COUNCILLOR (to be the power behind the throne).
