The House of LANCASTER fell during the 2nd BATTLE of ST. ALBANS:
- The political struggle for CONTROL for the King & the royal govt, led to an OUTRIGHT WAR of POSSESSION of the CROWN.
- 1455: Richard, Duke of YORK, was SUPPORTED by the NEVILLE EARLS of SALISBURY & WARWICK & LED them into rebellion AGAINST HENRY VI.
- They wanted to DESTRUCT SOMERSET
- ELIMINATE Margaret's influence
- CONTROL the King
- However, York did NOT INTEND to take the Crown.
- York was DETERMINED to be the King's CHIEF COUNCILLOR (to be the power behind the throne).
