EVENTS IN ASIA

In 1949, the Communist Party in China seized power, led by Mao Tse-tung. The Cold War has moved to Asia and the US came up with a Domino Theory. This was the idea that if one nation fell into communism, others would follow.  From 1950-1955 the Korean War took place, and for the US, this meant that their Domino Theory became a reality. North Korea was ruled by communists, supported by the USSR and China, and South Korea had a democratic government, supported by the US. North Korean forces stormed through South Korea, trying to otherthrow and turn the country communist. During the Vietnam war, the US gave $3 million to the French to defeat Vietnam. This was to prevent the spread of communism. However, the French were defeated at Dien Bien Phu. Vietnam was temporarily split into North and South. The US offered to help South Vietnam, as it was anti-communist. At the time, the south was ran by Ngo Dinh Bien and the North was run by Ho Chi Minh. However, the plan failed so the US attacked North Vietnam with air force. This was called Operation Rolling Thunder and they bombed the country.

MILITARY RIVALS

In order to stop the USSR’s spread of communism, the US started a military alliance called NATO…
