Solvents - Nail Varnish

Nail varnish is insoluble in water because:

  • The nail varnish molecules are strongly attracted to each other
  • The molecules of water are strongly attached to each other
  • The two substances are more attracted to their own molecule rather than another - this means that a solution is not formed

Nail varnish is soluble in acetone because:

  • Nail varnish dissolves because the attraction between the two different molecules is greater
  • Acetone is commonly known as nail varnish remover and
