Separation Techniques Required Practical

?

Aim: To separate two substances, insoluble and soluble solid from a liquid (No IV, DV or CV)

Filtration: Separating insoluble solids from liquids

1) Set up apparatus by:

-placing a funnel over a beaker (held by a clamp stand), and then

-place filter paper in the funnel.

2) Pour the solution into the funnel. Note that:

-The soluble solid (filtrate) penetrates the filter paper, but

-The insoluble solid doesn't, therefore the insoluble solid is separate (the residue).

3) Dry the insoluble solid using a warm oven.

Evaporation: One way of separating soluble solids from liquids
