ROMULUS

So, according to LIVY, not the most reliable of scources even in a good time, said that a certain Amulius, brother of Numitor- the king of Alba Longa- dethroned his brother and became the evil ruler we all know from Disney movies. -----> 

Another thing Amulius did was to kill Numitor's son and made Numitor's daughter, Rhea Silvia a Vestal Virgin, which were a group of priestesses who weren't allowed get pregnant or get married. If they did they'd be killed. Whoot.

Rhea Silvia got pregnant and gave birth to 2 kids, and their dad was the god of war- MARS!!! 

Then Amulius threw the kids in a basket into the river. This is because if they WERE the god's kids, he couldn't kill them outright. But luckily for the babies, the river was flooded and brought the babies to a wolf and a woodpecker who raised them for like 3 minutes until a poor sheperd whose name was Faustulus found them. His wife was Larentia. Then named them romulus and remus (and no we don't know which one was the oldest even though we all know it's remus becuase he's just there on the side telling romulus not to do dumb things while romulus kills him). 

and then the boys ended up like robin hood and stole loot off of robbers and gave it to the poor (like themselves). one gang of robbers ambushed the twins and got remus and took him to amulius. amulius SOMEHOW figured out that remus was 1/2 of his grandsons 

MEANWHILE romulus got an army to free his twin and stormed the palace! he killed amulius, rescued remus and put numitor back on the throne!

then the twins wanted to build a city. apparently they couldn't build 1 together or 2 seperately, it had to be 1 or the other. so romulus tood on the palatine hill and remus stood on the aventine hill, and waited for... a SIGN.
