When Can They Stop And Search
- Police must have reasonable grounds to suspect the person is in possesion of stolen goods / prohibited articles (knives etc)
- Criminal Justice Act 2003 s.1(6) PACE 1984
Safeguards
- Police have to state their name, station and the reason they are stopping and searching the suspect
- Police can only use resonable force if suspect resists
- Police must have written a report about the incident and give a copy to the suspect as well as keeping one for themselves
