- Police can stop and individual if they have reasonable suspicion that the person is carrying stolen or prohibited items
- Stated in ss1-7 Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984
- Stop and search can only take place in a public area
- Probibites items in anything used in theft, burglary or cheat
- Police may not stop and search on stereotypicat grounds like race, age or previous convictions this is stated in Code A
