Section 1 Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE) as amended.

Police have the power to stop and search if they have reasonable suspicion that they will find stolen goods, drugs, weapons, prohibited articles or a firework possessed in contravention of a fireworks regulation (added in SOCPA 2005).

Reasonable suspicion is described in Code A of the police codes of practice as not to include appearance, who you are with, where you are or previous record.
