It could be argued that morality and religion are in fact separate. Kant argued that personal autonomy is a must. Autonomy is something that is independent from religion. Its principles are justifies on the basis of reason and experience without reference to religious concepts. He argues that doing “something because God tells me to” is not autonomous. We surely must remain as autonomous beings, rather than be controlled by something external.
