Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)

These goals were developed by the United Nations to help with development in developing countries. They needed to be met by 2015. 

Goal 1 - eradicate extreme hunger and poverty - meeting the target of reducing poverty by at least half was acheived by most countries 5 years before the target date. There has also been a good reduction made in the amount of people that are living in hunger. 

Goal 2 - achieve universal primary education - there has been an improvement from 83% to 91% between 2000 and 2015. Most South American countries have made big progress but there is variance of progress made in countries within Africa. There is a big distribtution between the amount of progress made in different areas but those that are affected by conflict are less likely to have made progress.
