How can the development gap be measured?
Gross Domestic Product (GDP)- Total value of goods and services of a country in a year. Does not show how wealth is distributed within a country and does not show what the government is spending its money on.
Human Development Index (HDI) - Health (life expectancy), Wealth (GDP) and education (education attainment). the Index has a maximum score of 1.0
Gender Related Development Index (GDI) - same factors measured as HDI but separate scores for men and women
Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) - created in 2000, these goals aim to be completed by 2015. eradicate extreme hunger and poverty universal primary education promote gender equality reduce child mortality improve maternal health combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other deseases environmental sustainability create a global partnership for development
