Outline one or more memory improvement strategies (6 marks)

One method of memory improvement is method of loci, which was first used by the Ancient Greeks who were well known for their memory skills. This is a visual method that – assuming the WMM is correct – employs the visuo-spatial sketchpad. The individual creates a mental representation of a well-known place and they ‘place’ the items they need to remember in this area, and when they need to recall the information they mentally ‘walk’ around the well-known area, remembering the items as they go through the various sections that they previously placed the items. This works via association, as the items are linked with the place – if you can successfully remember the place, you can (supposedly) successfully remember the items. An example…
