Consideration of the target audience is a vital part of the analysis of any text. You can look at the media language employed, identify the institution and ideology, consider the representations employed and the narrative structure and genre of the text but unless you match all this against the target audience for the text you are not doing a successful analysis
Identifying the target audience:
All media texts are made for a particular audience. Most of the time we take this for granted - we know we are likely to enjoy a certain text, but not another. Analysing a media text is much easier once the target audience has been identified, because you can start to look for a particular feature of the text which appeals to the target audience.
