Abortion

The nature of abortion

Arbortion is the deliberate termination (ending) of a human pregnancy so that a child is not born. Currently in the uk it is legal to have an abortion up to 24 weeks of pregnancy with the consent of two doctors.

Divergent Christian teachings

Pope paul VI in 1968 issues the Humanae Vitae, which said abortion was wrong: "...all direct abortion, even for therapeutic reasons, are to be absolutley excluded as lawful means of regulating the number of children." (Humanae Vitae)

Arguments Against Abortion (pro-life arguments)

Some Christians (such as Catholics and Evangelical Protestants) believe the right and life of the foerus are important and they do not support abortion because:

-Life is a sacred gift from God

-Life is believed to begin and conception

-All life has value, even if a child may be born disabled

-God has a plan for ever human

-Abortion is viewed as murder and the Bible tells us "thou shalt not kill" in
