Judaism 

Bar mitzvah and Bat mitzvah: 

• Bar mitzvah is for boys and Bat mitzvah is for girls 

• Boys do it at 13, Girls do it at 12 

• Growing up and becoming a Jewish adult 

• Read some Hebrew  

• Boys have more to do than girls 

Birth ceremonies: 

• Children are a gift from God 

• God says be fruitful (First mitzvot) 

• Children are seen as a blessing and build up the community 

• Say a prayer for the baby 

• Announce the name 

• Celebrate 

• Foreskin cut off 

Brit Millah: 

• Brit Millah happens 8 days after the baby is born 

• It is important that baby boys are circumcised 

• It is a sign of the covent made with God made with Abraham  

• It is important because it’s a iniation rite of Jewish babies 

• Brit Millah usually takes place at home but can take place at the Hospital or at the Synagogue 

• The child is held by the Sandek (A person who is chosen by the parents) 

• The circumcision is performed by the Mohel (a person specially trained to remove the foreskin from the penis) 

Jewish daily life: 

• The Torah shapes their day 

• They pray daily 

• They go to the Synagogue on Shabatt 

• The Jewish scriptures are important to Jews  

• They believe God communicated things about himself through the sacred writings in the scriptures 

• The Torah is also known as the law because it lays down all the rules of living that God gave Moses after he lead the Israelites out of Egypt (Including the 10 commandments 

• The term Torah means teaching  

• Christians share the first 5 books of the bible with the Torah

• Jews share a lot of history with Christians because Jesus was a Jew then became a ChristianPage Break 

Kosher: 

• Kosher means fit, clean and acceptable 

• Cows are Kosher because they have split hooves 

• Jews kill the animal in the least stressful and least painful way possible 

• They cut it’s neck and let all the blood drain out 

• Jews have to wait 6 hours between eating meet and dairy
