  • Methodology:
    Hodges and Tizard's experiment was a natural experiment were the IV was where they were brought up after leaving the institution. However, the IV was not controlled by the researchers. It is therefore possible that the adopted and restored groups were different because the children first selected for adoption may have been the less troubled children. Parents select a child to adopt and are more likely to select those easier to get along with and could explain why the adopted children got on better at home.
