Diffusion in different organ systems

?

Diffusion in different organ systems:

Alveoli (Lungs)

·        Inhaled oxygen enters the lungs and travels to the alveoli. The layers of cells lining the alveoli and the capillaries around them are in very close contact with each other.

·        Because of this oxygen passes quickly through this air to blood barrier into the blood in the capillaries. Carbon dioxide passes from the blood to the alveoli and is then exhaled.

 Placenta

·        The placenta is highly permeable
