- Biology Add Pt1
- Plant tissues and organs
- The organs in a plant are made up of tissues
- The whole plant is covered in a layer of epidermis.
- This helps to protect the underlying cells
- It stops the leaves from losing too much water
- It prevents pathogens from entering the plant
- This helps to protect the underlying cells
- Most of the cells in a leaf are mesophyll cells
- This is where photosynthesis takes place
- Xylem and Phloem tubes run through the entire plants
- These are tubes which make up the plants transport system
- Xylem carries water from the roots to the leaves
- Sugars are transported around the plant in Pholem
- These are tubes which make up the plants transport system
- Plant organs include roots, stem, flowers and leaves
- Each is made up of tissues such as Mesophyll, Xylem and Phloem
- Leaf epidermis
- The epidermal tissue on the lower surface of the leaf has little holes called Stomata
- These allow gases to diffuse into and out of the leaf
- The epidermal tissue on the lower surface of the leaf has little holes called Stomata
- Animal tissues and organs
- Functions of the digestive system
- A system is a group of organs that performs a particular function
- The function of the digestive system is to break down the food you eat so the food molecules can enter the blood
- Salivary glands
- They secrete a digestive juice called salvia
- Salvia contains enzymes that break down starch in the food
- They secrete a digestive juice called salvia
- Pancreas
- This secretes pancreatic juice
- This contains more enzymes that break down starch, protein and fats in the food
- This secretes pancreatic juice
- Small intestine
- Where the enzymes from the pancreas work
- After they have digested the food and broken it down to small, soluble molecules
- These seep through the wall of the intestine into the blood, along with most of the water in the food
- This is called absorption
- These seep through the wall of the intestine into the blood, along with most of the water in the food
- After they have digested the food and broken it down to small, soluble molecules
- Where the enzymes from the pancreas work
- Large intestine
- Undigested food passes through on its way to the outside world as faeces
- As food moves through here, more water is absorbed from it
- Undigested food passes through on its way to the outside world as faeces
- A group of cells is called a tissue
- Organs are made up of different types of tissues
- The heart contains muscle tissue that can contract and relax
- Nervous tissue to control the heart beats, and ligaments to hold the different tissues in place
- Protecting the digestive system
- The whole of the digestive system is lined with epithelial tissue to protect the cells in the organs from digestive juices which could break them down
- Functions of the digestive system
- Plant tissues and organs
