What is an extreme environment?

An extreme environment is a region, place or area that is at the very edge of what people, animals and plants can survive in.

For example a mountain as it has a high altitude making it hard to breath because there is less oxygen the further you go up. It is colder the further you go up and is very remote from any infrastructure.
