WOMEN SHOULD NOT BE PRIESTS:

AGAINST

Against: Jesus is shown to have liked women in the bible and to have not shown to think of them as inferior to males.

Reasons to think this: 1. Mary Magdelene is allowed to wash Jesus' feet.

2. He saved a woman from being stoned to death.

3. Jesus drunk water from a well with a woman.

4. He said 'Love one another' -John

5. The first person to see hom after his resurrection is Mary Magdelene. (This is shown in the book of Mark)

WOMEN SHOULD NOT BE PRIESTS:

FOR

For: Some Catholics would agree with this statement.

Reasons to think this: 1. They see men and women as having different roles (they do argue they see them as equal however)

2. They believe women should have children and that is there role (i.e: the Virgin Mary)

3. One of the main functions of a priest is to perform the Eucharist and in the Eucharist the priest should represent Christ and they believe that women cannot represent Christ.

2. 'Treat others as you would like to be treated'

Against: The Church of England as a whole would disagree with this statement.

Reasons to think this: The Church of England does allow women to be priests and have done since 1991. They can not be Bishops however.

WOMEN SHOULD NOT BE PRIESTS:

For: St. Paul would be for this statement so some Christians also would be.

Reasons to think this: 1. He believed that men are the head of the house.

2. He believed that women should submit to men.

3. 'Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says.'

Against: There are parts in the Bible that would show Christians to disagree with this statement.

Reasons to think this: 'There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.' -Galatians

Against: Quakers as a whole would disagree with this statement.

Reason to think this: Quakers allow women to be priests.
